Amish children, even adults, play various kinds of table games. One of these is Carrom, sometimes called Amish or Mennonite pool. This involves knocking small wooden disks into pockets in a playing board.

Checkers, chess, Parcheesi, and even Monopoly are among other popular table games. Card games such as Rook or Dutch Blitz are popular in some Amish circles but discouraged in others. Regular playing cards are generally taboo.

Like other young children, Amish youngsters enjoy such activities as hide and seek, tag, and jumping rope. Girls play with dolls. Instead of playing cops and robbers or cowboys and Indians, Amish children act out farming practices or horse-and-buggy trips. Baler twine serves effectively as reins, and a wagon as a buggy. In addition, children may act out church services, taking turns as the preacher and congregation.
